Here is today’s match between Steven Harrington and Chuck Anderson in a format especially for iPhone.

Slam Dunk?

John Gruber said it best last week: The two key shots in Layer Tennis are the serve, which can be prepared in advance and the final volley which cannot be answered. Neil Durden comes out of the gate swinging. Lush and luminously layered, his first volley seems to be a quixotic cultural homage to Apocalypse Now, Roger Dean, and even a little bit of Christoph Niemann thrown in via the witty little brain iconography center stage. Me thinks there might even be a nod to the iPod ads, but I'll let that one go and hope it ends up debated in the Forum. Did Durden know I work in the Empire State Building? Is he trying to score extra points? Or is it just a serendipitous fait accompli? What would Freud say? In any case, this girl wants to know what The Couscous Kid is thinking right about now.

Hard Reign

The Kid all but obliterated Neil's color palette, and I am wondering where the type is ("this dress looks nice" doesn't count, especially since I don't like the dress), but I am loving the sexy strut across the catwalk. Given the speed of the return volley, I am also mulling the possibility that The Kid had this in the can. Couple of touches I particularly like: --the Magritte-esque/Thomas Crown Affair hat --the juxtaposition of stripes layered over the swirls of Neil's serve --the lady bug. just because. But what's with the piano? Back to you, Neil. Hope you know how to play.
